ABOUT US

who are we?

The Valero Energy Corporation was founded in 1980 and named for the Mission San Antonio de Valero, which you might remember better by its current name: “The Alamo”.

Since then, we’ve evolved into a leading producer of renewable fuels and the world’s largest premium independent petroleum refiner. We now have 15 refineries in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., with a total throughput capacity of approximately 3.2 million barrels per day. We’re also the second largest corn ethanol producer, with 12 ethanol plants and an annual production capacity of 1.6 billion gallons.

Who We Are

Valero Values

Our guiding principles are based on safety, environment, community, our employees and governance. We relentlessly pursue excellence; embrace the highest standards of safety and responsible operations; we care about the environment, our employees and the communities in which we work and live; and we hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity, with strong governance and ethical standards.

And we believe that those guiding principles exemplify what makes us different at Valero.

Caring for
our communities

We’re committed to our communities and we encourage employee involvement in non-profit boards, volunteer opportunities and charitable giving, and we hope to make that economically possible by treating and paying those employees fairly. And with Valero team members logging more than 129,400 volunteer hours in 2023, that’s just part of what we do and who we are.

Sponsorships

We’re proud to sponsor major events across the country in the communities we serve. From the Valero Texas Open golf tournament in our hometown of San Antonio to the Valero Alamo Bowl celebrating the best of college football, our sponsorship events have raised money for charities and other beneficiaries supporting children, healthcare, education and more.

Who We Are

Philanthropy

We strive to be a good neighbor and to share our success with our communities, through volunteerism, community investment and by fairly employing and paying local team members. Our efforts generated more than $77 million for charities through employee and company donations, corporate philanthropy, fundraising and volunteerism in 2023. And we’re proud to say that we’ve partnered with United Way for over 40 years and are among that organization’s largest corporate contributors.
